Model Railroading In 1995 I was introduced to the concept of model railroading through the reception of a train set from my grandfather. The following year, I recieved a 4x6' HO scale layout built entirely by my father as a Christmas gift. That layout was modified and expanded over the years and was finally outgrown about 10 years into its life when long (89') rolling stock became a common purchase. While it had always been my intention to move to an around-the-walls layout, it took until 2007 when several concepts were discussed for a general design to be decided upon. Construction started at that point, getting the basement framing ready to accept the layout. Nearly three years passed before more work was done, owing to various other commitments, however construction has progressed smoothly throughout 2010 and it now looks as if we will be operating trains in 2011.
